Rebecca’s Travel Page
As some of you already know, I love to travel. And, as an empty nester, I now have lots of time to do so. When not writing, I’m either researching destinations, planning new adventures, or I’m on the road.
The challenge comes from planning adventures that are fun, exciting, but not too perilous. I have spent over 50 years perfecting my mantra of, “Isn’t this dangerous?” And physically, I’m…well, over 50. Hint: I get regular “miss you” notices from CURVES. (Aside: Did you know that “computer butt” isn’t covered by most insurance plans?)
I guess you could say I’m a moderately healthy boomer with wanderlust, and I have a good pair of hiking shoes. Finding vacation experiences that are “exotic”, “romantic,” and “enchanted” is my goal.
I draw the “adventure” line just this side of … THE AMAZON (echo, echo, echo.) Did you ever see the movie At Play In The Fields of The Lord? Suffice it to say, I have images of me ending up dancing through the jungle, covered in ochre, stark naked and stark-raving.
Sooooo, my challenge is to find adventures that will satisfy my wanderlust, yet which are controlled enough for me to actually enjoy … and live to tell about. At this point in my life, (having survived childbirth, as well as gaining copious amounts of inner strength from Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Phil, and Martha Stewart) I’m emotionally equipped to stretch to the limits the elastic waistband of my travel comfort zone. A note here: This kind of delusional thinking has usually resulted in vacations that included life-threatening experiences … or at least experiences that could possibly--given just the right conditions--have been dangerous.
If you’re a boomer, or just a wanna-be Indiana Jane like myself, feel free to use these guides and info. And let the fun begin!
